Hy2B Wasserstoff GmbH has initiated testing of a 5-MW electrolyser in Pfeffenhausen, Bavaria, with plans for it to begin regular operations by the end of 2024, according to the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development, and Energy.
The electrolyser will utilize electricity sourced from a nearby 10-MW solar park operated by BuergerEnergie Niederbayern eG.
Once operational, the electrolyser is projected to produce approximately 440 tonnes of green hydrogen annually. This hydrogen will be transported to refuelling stations in the Munich area for use in regional transport buses.
Additionally, it will supply a planned Hydrogen Technology Application Centre to be established adjacent to the electrolyser.
The facility's design includes scalability, allowing for an increase in capacity to 10 MW if demand rises. Hy2B Wasserstoff was founded in 2020 to develop this project, with shareholders that include Hynergy Invest GmbH, BayWa AG, Tyczka Hydrogen GmbH, the districts of Landshut and Munich, and various energy cooperatives from the region.
