Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) has announced an invitation for expressions of interest (EoIs) for the development of a wind farm with a generation capacity of up to 140 MW, set to be located near the existing utility-scale wind program in Al Sila, Abu Dhabi. Once operational, this project is expected to more than double the installed wind capacity in the UAE.
Developers interested in participating can submit their EoIs by November 5, after which a request for qualifications will be issued. The selected developer will be responsible for the development, financing, construction, operation, and ownership of the Al Sila Wind project, along with the associated infrastructure. This initiative will also involve entering into a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with EWEC under Abu Dhabi's independent power project program.
EWEC Chief Executive Othman Al Ali stated, “Importantly, this new project will pave the way for further large-scale deployment of wind technology in Abu Dhabi, and by harnessing the power of wind we are not only diversifying our energy portfolio but showcasing that a clean energy future is within reach.”
The wind farm will support Abu Dhabi's goal of generating 60% of its electricity from clean sources by 2035. Additionally, EWEC recently issued an EoI invitation for a 1.5-GW solar project.
