Fluence Energy Inc. announced that it will provide a 58-megawatt-hour (MWh) battery energy storage system for a project in Germany led by Norwegian state-owned utility Statkraft AS.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, confirming that Fluence's subsidiary, Fluence Energy GmbH, will supply and service the battery, which will be integrated into Germany's largest hybrid solar and storage project.
The facility, located in Zerbst, Saxony-Anhalt, will combine a 47-megawatt (MW) solar park with a 16-MW battery energy storage system. Statkraft was awarded the project under Germany's innovation tenders, which aim to promote the development of hybrid renewable assets for a more sustainable and efficient energy system.
This project marks the sixth collaboration between Statkraft and Fluence, following previous battery projects in the UK and Ireland.
Markus Meyer, managing director of Fluence Energy GmbH, highlighted the significance of the initiative, stating, “The increased focus on deploying renewable energy combined with storage assets is a great opportunity for Germany. Large-scale battery storage systems ensure energy security, limit curtailment, and are a forward-looking solution for the energy system.”
