The governments of Egypt and the German federal state of Bavaria have signed a declaration of intent aimed at enhancing their cooperation in the hydrogen sector.
The agreement was formalized on Thursday in Cairo by Egypt's Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Esmat, and Bavaria's Minister of State, Florian Herrmann, with the presence of Bavaria's Minister-President Markus Soeder and Egypt's Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly.
The joint declaration outlines several areas for collaboration, including hydrogen trade, production capacities, logistics expansion, advancements in hydrogen technologies, and market development.
It emphasizes the importance of research and development in projects related to hydrogen production chains and the utilization of renewable energy for green hydrogen production.
Both parties have committed to promoting knowledge exchange and strengthening institutional relations through their respective chambers of commerce, industrial associations, and business organizations. The cooperation will focus on hydrogen producers in Egypt, hydrogen technology providers in Bavaria, and potential hydrogen buyers in the German state.
This initiative aligns with Egypt's goal of capturing between 5% and 8% of the global hydrogen market by 2040. Meanwhile, Germany anticipates that approximately 70% of its hydrogen demand will be met through imports, making this partnership crucial for both parties in advancing their hydrogen strategies.
