The New York State Energy and Research Development Authority (NYSERDA) has unveiled 26 innovation projects that will receive a total of $24 million in funding aimed at advancing clean energy technologies. This announcement, made on Thursday, highlights the state's commitment to promoting sustainability and reducing carbon emissions.
The selected projects fall under NYSERDA's Innovation Program and cover various sectors, including long-duration energy storage, clean hydrogen, grid modernization, geothermal energy, and building electrification and energy efficiency.
Of the total funding, approximately $8.1 million will be allocated to eight projects focused on clean hydrogen innovation. These initiatives aim to decarbonize industrial process heat, facilitate the integration of green hydrogen production, and demonstrate hydrogen-based generation systems that support grid services.
Additionally, $7.3 million has been earmarked for 11 projects that concentrate on grid management and enhancing the coordination of distributed energy resources (DER). The objective of these projects is to improve grid efficiency, reduce costs, and support the broader energy transition.
NYSERDA has also awarded a $4.5 million grant to a single project providing advisory support to climate technology startups. Furthermore, four projects focusing on long-duration energy storage (LDES) technologies received a combined total of $2.4 million, while the remaining $1.8 million is designated for two projects that aim to enhance efficient heating and cooling systems, intelligent load management, and innovative insulation products.
Governor Kathy Hochul commented on the initiative, stating, “We will build upon each breakthrough to ensure our growing green economy continues to thrive through the kind of outside-the-box thinking demonstrated by each of the selected projects.”
