Baltic Storage Platform, a joint venture that includes French sustainable investment manager Mirova, has officially laid the cornerstone for two battery storage installations in Estonia, which will have a combined capacity of 200 MW/400 MWh.
The first facility is expected to be operational by the end of 2025, while the second is scheduled for commissioning in 2026.
The joint venture also includes Estonian energy company Evecon and French solar energy producer Corsica Sole, both of which contribute expertise in energy storage systems developed in the French Islands.
Located in Kiisa, Estonia, this initiative is being hailed as the largest battery park complex in continental Europe and is seen as a crucial step toward synchronizing the Baltic countries with the European grid next year.
Climate Minister Yoko Alender emphasized the importance of energy storage, stating, “Estonia has a clear goal – by 2030, the amount of electricity we consume must come from renewable sources. Energy storage plays an important role here, because we need to store solar and wind energy for moments when nature is currently resting.”
