Denmark's Orsted A/S, Simply Blue Group, and Subsea7 have submitted applications for the onshore components of their 100-MW Salamander floating wind project, located off the East Coast of Scotland. The partnership, Salamander Offshore Wind Farm, announced on Wednesday that it had lodged consent applications with local and national authorities.
The first application, submitted to Aberdeenshire Council, pertains to the construction of an onshore substation and associated infrastructure. The second application, filed with the Scottish Government's Energy Consents Unit, addresses the energy balancing infrastructure and a proposed battery facility for the future wind park.
These submissions follow earlier plans filed with Scottish Ministers, seeking approval for the offshore elements of the floating wind project. The Salamander wind farm, located 35 kilometers off the coast of Peterhead, aims to demonstrate innovative floating wind technologies on a commercial scale.
The developers secured the site lease through Crown Estate Scotland's Innovation and Targeted Oil and Gas (INTOG) leasing round in March 2023. The project was one of five awarded exclusivity agreements under the competition's Innovation category.
If approved by the Scottish government and local authorities, the Salamander project is expected to generate enough electricity to power approximately 100,000 homes in Scotland annually.
