Zelestra Inaugurates La Unión Photovoltaic Plant in Montería, Colombia

Spanish company has inaugurated the La Unión plant in Montería, located in the Córdoba department of .

The plant, covering 230 hectares, is equipped with 220,960 solar panels and has a capacity to generate 144 megawatts, which will supply energy to approximately 132,000 homes, benefiting around 430,000 people.

The project, which took a year and a half to complete, involved 1,276 workers. Alejandro Ospina, Zelestra's country manager, highlighted Córdoba's favorable conditions for such projects, stating, “Córdoba has adequate solar resources and topography… and good road and electrical conditions to allow the construction of the project and subsequent evacuation of the generated energy.”

The event was attended by Colombia's Minister of Mines and Energy, Andrés Camacho, along with the Mayor of Montería, Hugo Kerguelén, and the Governor of Córdoba, Erasmo Zuleta.

In addition to La Unión, Zelestra is preparing to launch another solar plant, “La Planta,” in César, with a peak generation capacity of 108 megawatts, reinforcing its commitment to renewable energy in Colombia.
