Carrefour has entered into a series of long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with VSB Group to source green electricity from a 43.3-MW portfolio of wind and solar parks across France. The renewable power will come from the Eoliennes de Guehenno and Eoliennes de Fadoumal wind farms in Brittany and Occitania, as well as three solar facilities located in Occitania and Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes.
This deal will provide renewable energy to 26 Carrefour hypermarkets, furthering the retailer's goal to achieve 100% renewable electricity by 2030.
Felix Grolman, CEO of VSB Group, highlighted the significance of the agreement: “The long-term partnership between VSB France and Carrefour, one of France's leading retailers, is a decisive step in promoting the use of renewable energy while at the same time creating economic value.”
Earlier this week, Carrefour also secured renewable power from a 52-MWp solar farm to be developed by Qair in Italy, which will supply 75 GWh annually to its stores.
