Yinson Renewables has announced that its 97-MWp Matarani solar farm in Peru has officially commenced full commercial operations. The solar facility began exporting electricity in July 2024 and is anticipated to generate approximately 260 GWh of electricity annually, supplying power to around 62,000 households in Peru.
The Matarani plant will operate under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Orygen, a renewable energy generator in Peru supported by Actis.
Earlier this year, Yinson acquired the Matarani project from Spanish developer Grenergy Renovables SA , which provided comprehensive engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services for the project and will support its operation and maintenance for the initial two years.
“The Matarani Solar Plant is a significant milestone for Yinson Renewables, being our first in Peru and the region,” said David Brunt, Chief Executive Officer of Yinson Renewables. “With this plant now fully operational, Yinson Renewables has created a strong foundation which will facilitate our continued expansion in the region.”
Yinson Renewables has a growing pipeline in Latin America, with several projects totaling close to 1 GW of capacity anticipated for development over the next three to five years.
Additionally, the company owns the 130-MWp Majes solar project in Peru, with the first phase expected to be shovel-ready by the end of 2024. Yinson Renewables is a subsidiary of Yinson Holdings Bhd , a Malaysian energy infrastructure firm.
