The green arm of Polish utility Tauron Polska Energia SA has signed a contract to acquire the 190.8-MW Miejska Gorka wind farm project from German renewables developer VSB Group. The announcement was made on Tuesday.
Located in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, the Miejska Gorka wind project will feature up to 53 wind turbines, with a significant portion supplied by Nordex, which had previously announced a 148-MW order for the project.
Set to be one of Poland's largest wind farms, it is anticipated to commence operations in early 2027, representing a total investment of nearly PLN 2 billion (USD 522 million/EUR 468 million).
Michal Orlowski, Vice-President of Tauron Polska Energia for Asset Management and Development, stated, “Wind power plants are an important part of the decarbonisation of Tauron Group's power generation mix. The electricity production profile of wind farms provides a good complement to the energy consumption profile of end users, who are increasingly producing their own energy from photovoltaics. This transaction is an important step in achieving the strategic goals of the Tauron Group.”
Currently, Tauron operates 11 wind farms with a total capacity of 417 MW, while another five wind projects totaling 164 MW are under construction, with over 120 MW expected to come online this year.
