Inghams, a major supplier of poultry in Australia and New Zealand, has entered into a 20-year agreement to source its entire electricity consumption from Lodestone Energy's solar parks in New Zealand.
The solar developer announced that Inghams will receive Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) tied to the output from photovoltaic (PV) farms located in the Bay of Plenty and Coromandel, with supplies set to begin in 2025.
Ed Alexander, Chief Executive of Inghams New Zealand, emphasized the importance of sustainability to the company's operations. He stated that the long-term agreement will help offset the company's electricity carbon footprint while securing a stable and cost-competitive energy source for the future. The arrangement will also allow Inghams to avoid the upfront and maintenance costs associated with installing its own rooftop PV systems.
Inghams is committed to reducing its Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 43% by 2030, based on a 2019 baseline, and aims to source 75% of its electricity from green sources by the end of the decade.
