Synera Renewable Energy (SRE) has announced that its Formosa 6 offshore wind project off the coast of Taiwan has been awarded 800MW of development capacity. This award was granted by the Ministry of Economic Affairs in the second round of auctions for Phase 3 Zonal Development of Offshore Wind.
Formosa 6 will be located approximately 35 kilometers off the coast of Xianxi Township, Changhua County, covering an area of around 84 square kilometers. With an allocated capacity of 800MW, the project can install up to 57 turbines, each with a capacity of 14MW.
Lucas Lin, SRE's chairperson, expressed his enthusiasm about the project's approval. “This is truly encouraging,” Lin said. “We deeply respect the competent authorities and review committee members for their fairness, impartiality, and professionalism throughout the process. We also extend our appreciation to all our supply chain partners.”
Lin highlighted SRE's long-standing commitment to Taiwan's offshore wind power sector. “SRE has been dedicated to offshore wind power in Taiwan since 2012, navigating through all the phases of industry development, namely demonstration, potential zones, and zonal development. Our unwavering commitment to Taiwan and strong belief in its market potential have been driving us forward. We are determined to give our best efforts to every project, including Formosa 4, which won capacity in the previous auction, and the newly launched Formosa 6.”
The Formosa 6 project marks another significant step in Taiwan's renewable energy goals, leveraging SRE's experience and dedication to advancing offshore wind power in the region.
