Amazon.com Inc has finalized a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Eneos Renewable Energy Corp (ERE) to secure renewable energy from the Kudamatsu Fourth Mega Solar Power Plant, a 9.5-megawatt facility currently under construction in Yamaguchi Prefecture. The plant is expected to be operational by November 2025.
Under the terms of the agreement, ERE will provide Amazon with approximately 20,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of renewable electricity annually. This amount of energy is sufficient to power around 4,800 average households per year.
The deal is part of Amazon's broader strategy to expand its use of renewable energy sources and contribute to its sustainability goals. According to ERE, Amazon is the largest corporate purchaser of renewable energy in Japan. The company has played a pivotal role in the development of 20 solar projects in the country, as reported by Bloomberg New Energy Finance.
This PPA reinforces Amazon's commitment to achieving its renewable energy targets and supports its efforts to reduce its carbon footprint. The investment in the Kudamatsu Fourth Mega Solar Power Plant aligns with the company's global strategy to increase its renewable energy portfolio and drive progress toward a more sustainable future.
