Wind farms in Brazil's Northeast region set a new generation record on July 27, reaching 19,028 MW, the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) announced.
According to data from the National Electric System Operator (ONS), this new record represented 152.8% of the region's energy demand at that time. The previous record was 18,725 MW, registered on August 14, 2023.
Brazil experiences its windy season from July to September, increasing the likelihood of new generation records in the coming weeks.
During the first half of the year, Brazil's electricity system added 5.7 GW of new capacity across various technologies. The goal is to achieve 10.1 GW by the end of the year, according to the MME.
