PPC Renewables, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Greek electric utility PPC SA, has initiated the construction of a 140-megawatt (MW) wind farm in Vaslui County, eastern Romania.
The wind farm will feature 23 GE Vernova 6.1-MW turbines and is scheduled to be connected to the grid by the end of 2025. The facility is expected to generate approximately 370 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity annually, sufficient to power around 62,000 households, according to PPC's press release on Tuesday.
Currently, PPC Renewables operates over 700 MW of renewable energy capacity in Romania. With the addition of this wind farm, PPC Group's total installed renewable energy capacity in the country will rise to about 850 MW.
The 140-MW project aligns with PPC Renewables' strategy for organic portfolio expansion. In addition to this development, the Greek utility has been active in mergers and acquisitions in Romania, acquiring an 84-MW wind farm from Russia's Lukoil earlier this year and taking over the Romanian operations of Italian utility Enel SpA in October 2023.
PPC Group now boasts a total of 4.7 GW of renewable energy capacity across Greece and Romania.
