Enel Green Power Australia (EGPA) has acquired a 1-GW hybrid project featuring solar photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage capacity in New South Wales, UK renewables group RES announced on Wednesday.
The Tallawang project includes a 500-MW solar park combined with 500 MW/1,000 MWh of energy storage. It is set to be located in the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (REZ), on a 1,300-hectare (3,212-acre) site northwest of Gulgong in the Mid-West Regional Council area.
“Tallawang is a large-scale and advanced development project, with outstanding resources and key planning and regulatory approvals well progressed,” said Werther Esposito, CEO of EGPA.
RES indicated that the timeline for the project's implementation will be influenced by the progress of the Central-West Orana REZ transmission project, which is designed to connect at least 4.5 GW of large-scale renewable energy facilities to the grid. The state government approved this transmission plan earlier this month.
The acquisition is pending regulatory clearance, including approval from the Foreign Investment Review Board.
EGPA is a joint venture equally owned by Italian utility Enel SpA and Japanese oil and natural gas producer Inpex Corp.
