Nordex has installed its most powerful turbine for medium and light wind sites at the Burgerwindpark Janneby community wind farm in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. The N175/6.X machine, with a rotor swept area of 24,053 square metres and a nominal capacity of up to 6.8MW, features an 86-metre-long rotor blade.
The turbine's rotor diameter of 175 metres and new blade design contribute significantly to high performance, particularly at light wind speeds, according to Nordex. “The installation of the first N175/6.X is an important milestone for Nordex,” said Nordex CEO Josa Luis Blanco. “Our colleagues worked very hard and closely together to ensure the development and the installation on schedule of this pilot turbine.”
Blanco highlighted that the N175/6.X is another variant of Nordex's Delta4000 platform, using validated components. “Thanks to the turbine's large rotor, we will be setting new standards onshore in Germany and Europe in terms of additional electricity yield, especially at times of light wind speeds,” he added.
The N175/6.X will undergo extensive tests at the site in the coming months. Nordex has previously installed prototypes in Janneby and has had positive experiences with the site, which offers excellent conditions for power and sound measurements and validation of mechanical loads for IEC type certification.
The turbine is installed on a tubular steel tower with a hub height of 112 metres. A second N175/6.X is scheduled to be installed in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in late autumn 2024. This turbine will be mounted on a hybrid tower developed by Nordex with a hub height of 179 metres, the tallest tower in the Nordex portfolio to date.
