Vineyard Wind, a joint venture between CIP and Avangrid, has removed approximately 17 cubic yards of debris from the shore of Nantucket, Massachusetts, following blade damage on July 13. The amount of debris is enough to fill more than six truckloads, the company said.
Cleanup efforts will continue as needed throughout the week until all debris is removed. Vineyard Wind has increased its beach patrols to 35 employees and contractors to ensure thorough cleanup. “We continue to ask that members of the public avoid handling any of the debris, but report any debris sightings to Vineyard Wind or town officials for recovery,” Vineyard Wind CEO Klaus Moeller stated in a release.
“The public can have confidence that we will be here as long as it takes to get the job done and make sure the beaches are cleaned up,” Moeller said, expressing gratitude towards local government for their support.
The project has reopened beaches for swimming and will continue to monitor seven different locations on the island. Vineyard Wind has contracted Robert B. Our, a local construction firm, and National Resource Corporation, an emergency response contractor, to lead the cleanup operations.
