Spanish utility Iberdrola SA announced on Thursday a significant long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Burger King, committing to supply the fast food chain with 1,500 GWh of solar energy from its expansive Francisco Pizzaro solar farm in Caceres province, western Spain.
Under the terms of the PPA, Iberdrola will allocate 75 MW of the 553-MW capacity of the Francisco Pizzaro solar plant specifically to serve Burger King's energy needs.
“This agreement underscores our commitment to providing sustainable energy solutions to our partners in the retail sector,” stated a spokesperson from Iberdrola.
The 1,500 GWh supply will cover the annual electricity demand for more than 750 Burger King restaurants. Additionally, Iberdrola and bp pulse are managing 154 electric vehicle recharging points at Burger King's main facilities across Spain.
Burger King joins a growing list of corporate buyers sourcing renewable power from the Francisco Pizarro solar farm, which includes Bayer AG, Danone SA, and PepsiCo.
