India's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) recently issued guidelines for a new scheme aimed at adding 450,000 tonnes per year of green hydrogen production capacity.
The initiative, titled “Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Programme – Component II: Incentive Scheme for Green Hydrogen Production (under Mode 1)- Tranche-II”, designates the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) as the implementing agency. SECI is expected to initiate a Request for Selection (RfS) process imminently.
The production capacity will be divided into two categories. Bucket II reserves 40,000 tonnes per year for biomass-based pathways, while the remaining capacity is open to technology-agnostic methods.
Bidding for the scheme will be based on the least average incentive quoted by bidders. The bidding range for Bucket I spans from 10,000 to 90,000 tonnes per annum (TPA), while Bucket II ranges from 500 to 4,000 TPA. Bidders are permitted to bid for any or both buckets, with a maximum capacity limit of 90,000 TPA per bidder.
