Amplify Cell Technologies, a collaborative venture involving Accelera by Cummins, Daimler Truck, and Paccar, has commenced the construction of a new battery cell factory in Marshall County, Mississippi. This facility, announced last year and established in June, will focus on producing lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cells tailored for electric commercial vehicles.
Kel Kearns, CEO of Amplify, remarked on the groundbreaking event, stating, “I am pleased to join our partners in launching the construction of this battery cell manufacturing facility in Marshall County.” The plant, spanning a 500-hectare site, is scheduled to begin operations in 2027, aiming for an annual production capacity of 21 gigawatt hours (GWh).
The initiative is anticipated to generate over 2,000 manufacturing jobs in the United States, leveraging local production to benefit from US subsidies promoting domestic value creation in the transportation sector.
Accelera by Cummins, Daimler Truck, and Paccar are collectively investing between two to three billion dollars in the joint venture, each holding a 30% stake. EVE Energy, specializing in LFP battery cell manufacturing, participates as a technology partner with a ten percent share, contributing expertise in battery cell development and production.
