Naturgy Energy Group SA has bolstered its renewable energy presence in the Canary Islands with the inauguration of five new solar farms, adding a total of 19.5 MW to its operational portfolio in the archipelago.
Located in the municipality of Aguimes on Gran Canaria, the newly commissioned projects include Gran Canaria I and II, along with Telde I, IV, and V. Naturgy estimates these facilities will collectively generate 38 GWh of electricity annually, sufficient to power approximately 11,650 homes.
The utility invested EUR 20 million (USD 21.5m) in these projects, further solidifying its renewable energy capacity on the Canary Islands, which now totals 136 MW. This figure encompasses 12 wind farms and nine solar installations.
Naturgy also has nearly 70 MW of projects in the pipeline, including a hybridisation initiative incorporating 12.9 MWh of battery storage in Aguimes. The company aims to expand its operational renewables capacity in the Canary Islands to 145 MW by the end of the year.
