Jan De Nul Group has secured a preferred supplier agreement with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners for the installation of export cables at the Fengmiao 1 offshore wind farm in Taiwan.
Located approximately 35km off Taichung's coast, the project aims to connect its offshore substation to the onshore grid using two AC high-voltage cables. Jan De Nul will utilize its cable-laying vessel, Willem de Vlamingh, for the task, managing the transport, installation, and protection of cable crossings.
The cables, totaling 89km in length and over eight thousand tonnes in weight, mark a significant milestone in Taiwan's renewable energy ambitions.
Jan De Nul's offshore cables manager, Wouter Vermeersch, expressed confidence in the project's contribution to global energy transition, stating, “The Fengmiao wind farm brings us another step closer to a world driven by renewable energy. Jan De Nul Group is a big believer in the energy transition and has the knowledge, skills and equipment to make that transition a reality. The two new XL cable-laying vessels we recently ordered prove that we are going all-out for green electricity.”
