AES Andes, a South American electric utility, announced on Thursday the commencement of commercial operations at its 78-megawatt (MW) San Matias wind farm in central Chile, following approval from the grid operator.
Located in Los Angeles, Biobio region, San Matias represents AES Andes' fifth wind farm development.
“Today, more than 50% of our company's portfolio is based on renewable technologies and battery storage,” AES Andes General Manager Javier Dib stated.
Since launching its Greentegra green energy strategy in 2018, AES Andes has invested over USD 1.8 billion (EUR 1.58 billion), adding 1,163 MW of wind, solar, and battery storage capacity to its portfolio.
In Chile alone, the company has 767 MW of renewables currently under construction, with a contracted project portfolio of 1,700 MW in various stages of development. AES Andes plans to invest over USD 2.5 billion between 2024 and 2027.
