Vestas Wins Contract for 155-MW Wind Farm Expansion in New Zealand

, a wind turbine manufacturer based in Denmark, has secured a contract to supply equipment for the expansion of a 155-MW wind farm project undertaken by 's Mercury NZ Ltd.

Announced on Wednesday, Vestas will provide 36 units of its V136-4.2 MW turbines for the second phase of the Kaiwera Downs wind farm in New Zealand. These turbines will operate in a 4.3 MW mode, enhancing the project's overall capacity and efficiency.

Delivery of the turbines is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2025, with commissioning expected to commence in the first quarter of 2026. Additionally, Vestas will oversee the wind farm's operations under a 30-year Active Output 5000 (AOM 5000) service and maintenance contract.

The first phase of the Kaiwera Downs Wind Farm, boasting a capacity of 43 MW, became operational in November last year. This phase features 10 of Vestas' V136-4.3 MW turbines, generating enough to power approximately 20,000 homes annually.

The expansion project underscores Vestas' commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions globally, while reinforcing its partnership with Mercury NZ in expanding New Zealand's renewable energy .
