SSE has successfully completed the turbine installation at the 101MW Yellow River wind farm located in Rhode, County Offaly, . This milestone coincides with Global Wind Day, celebrated annually on June 15th to highlight the advancements and potential of wind energy worldwide.

The installation marks a significant achievement for the Yellow River project, with working closely with turbine supplier Group to safely install each N117/3600 unit at the site. The installation campaign commenced in January of this year and has been executed according to schedule.

Scheduled for completion later this summer, the wind farm's construction phase has generated up to 150 full-time jobs at peak activity. Approximately 300,000 hours have been logged on-site by local contractors and SSE personnel, underscoring the project's local economic impact.

Project manager Paul Rodgers expressed satisfaction with reaching this milestone, emphasizing the collaborative effort involved: “We are delighted to have reached this milestone in the project. It takes a huge amount of planning and organisation to get to this point. It was a massive team effort from everyone involved including our contracting partners Nordex, Farrans and Suir Engineering.”

Acknowledging the support of the surrounding communities, Rodgers added: “We would like to thank the local communities surrounding Rhode for their patience and support over the past few months while we transported turbine components from the Port of Galway to site.”
