Rezolv Energy has recently secured the rights to construct and operate a significant solar project, the St George Solar Plant, in Silistra municipality, situated in the north-eastern region of Bulgaria. The ambitious 229-megawatt (MW) project is scheduled to begin construction before the end of this year, with an operational target of 2025.
The acquisition of the St George Solar Project was completed from YGY Industries JSC, a Bulgarian company owned by Yavor Georgiev. Rezolv Energy plans to undertake the development on the grounds of the former Silistra airport, a decommissioned airfield spanning an expansive 165-hectare area. Upon completion, the solar plant will boast an impressive assembly of nearly 400,000 solar panels.
The plant's connectivity will be established through two independent connection lines measuring approximately 6 kilometers in total, efficiently linking it to the main 110 kilovolt (kV) transmission grid. This strategic setup will enable the distribution of generated power to commercial and industrial users through long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs).
One of the project's significant benefits lies in its potential to stimulate local employment. The St George Solar Project is expected to generate around 500 full-time equivalent (FTE) roles, catering to both men and women, on a full-time or part-time basis, encompassing light assembly work as well as highly-skilled engineering positions. Moreover, the region will continue to benefit from employment opportunities for skilled and semi-skilled labor throughout the extensive 30-plus years of operation.
Alastair Hammond, the Chief Operating Officer of Rezolv Energy, expressed optimism about the future of solar energy in Bulgaria. He stated, “Solar will account for almost 13% of Bulgaria's total installed capacity this year, with estimates pointing to a generation of close to 6GW of solar power by 2030.”
