Porsche Expands EV Charging Network in North America Through ChargePoint Integration

Porsche Cars (PCNA) has announced a partnership with , a leading EV charging network. The collaboration will integrate the ChargePoint network into the Porsche Charging Service, allowing customers to access stations conveniently through the My Porsche app.

Scheduled to go live in the fourth quarter of 2024, this integration will significantly bolster the number of EV charging stations available through Porsche's service in the US to 86,000, with ChargePoint indicating a total of 100,000 EV chargers accessible through the app. Timo Resch, President and CEO of PCNA, emphasized the brand's commitment to providing customers with options, stating, “We passionately believe in choice, and as a result, we are constantly looking for opportunities to enhance our customer experience and expand charging options.”

Rick Wilmer, CEO of ChargePoint, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, noting, “ChargePoint is honoured to help Porsche provide their drivers with a charging experience that aligns with the rest of their renowned brand experience.” He added that ChargePoint software will enable integrated and frictionless charging, enhancing the overall experience for Porsche drivers.

Porsche's expansion of its charging network extends beyond the US. The company recently opened its fourth Porsche Charging Lounge in Ingolstadt, , offering four fast chargers with 400 kW and four 22 kW AC charging points. More stations are expected to be added in the future. Additionally, Porsche has increased the charging power at its first three lounge locations from 300 to 400 kW. These lounges are exclusive to Porsche drivers with a Porsche ID linked to their vehicle, ensuring a premium charging experience.

Looking ahead, Porsche plans to establish further charging locations along major European traffic routes, with an initial focus on Germany, Austria, and . In Spain, the company has partnered with Iberdrola to build HPC parks under the name ‘Porsche Iberdrola High Power Charging Network', with the first park in Elche, Alicante, already operational since February 2022. The system boasts four charging points with up to 400 kW and points with up to 200 kW, providing a total capacity of four megawatts.
