Hydro Rein, the renewable energy business under Norwegian aluminum supplier Norsk Hydro ASA, has announced plans to construct a significant wind farm comprising up to 50 turbines in a forested area in northern Sweden.
According to a press statement released today, the company has secured a land lease agreement with Pajala Almanning, the entity overseeing the Pajala, Junosuando, and Tarendo public forest, for the development of the site.
The proposed project, named Karhuvaara, is slated to be situated in the southern region of the Pajala municipality.
This initiative marks a notable addition to Hydro Rein's existing involvement in more than 30 wind projects at various stages of development across Sweden. The company boasts a substantial portfolio, totaling 8.4 GW, and holds long-term contracts for a combined output of 5.3 TWh per year.
