Convertus Group and Énergère Collaborate on Innovative Organic Waste Processing Facility in Quebec

(Convertus) and , two prominent players in the field of sustainable solutions, have joined forces to develop a state-of-the-art organic waste processing facility in Saint-Étienne-des-Grès, Quebec, under a comprehensive 20-year operating contract.

Scheduled to commence operations in 2026, the facility aims to tackle the pressing environmental issues associated with organic waste disposal in the Mauricie Region. By leveraging innovative technologies and sustainable practices, Convertus intends to play a pivotal role in advancing a circular economy and curbing greenhouse gas emissions across the region's 37 municipalities.

The collaboration between Convertus and Énergère capitalizes on their respective expertise, with Convertus specializing in organic waste facility design and operations, while Énergère boasts extensive experience in design-build projects and energy retrofits. Together, they aim to ensure the successful implementation and ongoing operations of the facility.

The facility will employ cutting-edge anaerobic digestion and in-vessel composting technology to convert up to 35,000 tonnes of organic waste annually into and nutrient-rich fertiliser and compost. Notably, the production of during this process will serve as a renewable energy source to power the local community.

Michael Leopold, CEO of Convertus Group, expressed enthusiasm about the project's potential impact, stating, “We are excited to contribute to the sustainability goals of Mauricie Region's communities by providing an innovative organic waste management solution. Our full-service approach to designing, constructing, and operating new organic waste processing facilities across ensures maximum resource recovery while minimizing environmental impact.”

Mario Geoffrey, Director of Biomethanisation at Énergère, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the significance of reducing greenhouse gases and the collective commitment to environmental stewardship. Geoffrey stated, “Each step in reducing greenhouse gases is a victory for our planet. It is with great pride that we are committed, in symbiosis with our partners, to continuing this mission and wish to become, through projects such as St-Étienne des Grès biomethanisation plant, an inspiration for future initiatives.”
