RWE Inks Power Purchase Agreements with Microsoft for Texas Wind Farms

, a leading company, has sealed two significant power purchase agreements (PPAs) with technology giant Microsoft, aiming to support Microsoft's ambitious goal of achieving 100% renewable energy coverage by 2025. These 15-year PPAs will ensure the supply of clean from two wind farms located in Texas, with a combined capacity of 446MW.

With these agreements in place, RWE has commenced construction on the Peyton Creek 2 , boasting a capacity of 243MW, and has also made the investment decision to develop the Lane City project. Andrew Flanagan, CEO of RWE Clean Energy, expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with Microsoft to fulfill their sustainability objectives, emphasizing their joint commitment to fostering a clean energy future.

For the construction of the Peyton Creek 2 wind farm, RWE has partnered with , Wanzek Construction, and RES. The project will utilize Vestas' V163 4.5MW turbines and will be executed by Wanzek and RES. Peyton Creek 2, situated near RWE's existing Peyton Creek 1 wind farm, is poised to generate significant economic benefits for the local community, including job creation during construction and long-term tax revenue.

Meanwhile, the Lane City project, with a capacity of 203MW, is scheduled to commence construction during the upcoming summer months. Both wind farms are expected to create hundreds of jobs during their construction phases and will contribute substantially to the local tax base once operational. Peyton Creek 2 is projected to inject approximately $300 million into the local tax base in Matagorda County, while Lane City will provide a similar boost to the tax base in Wharton County.
