Aurora Energy Services, a Scottish energy specialist, has bolstered its international presence through the acquisition of ARC Wind in Australia, marking a significant expansion in the renewable energy sector. With ARC Wind being a key player in Australia's renewables industry, the acquisition underscores Aurora's commitment to global growth and diversification.
Headquartered in Canberra, ARC Wind is renowned for its comprehensive range of construction, engineering, installation, and commissioning services within the renewables sector. With over 250 employees and annual revenues exceeding A$30 million (£15.7 million), ARC Wind's acquisition aligns with Aurora's ambitious plans to more than triple revenues to A$100 million (£52 million) over the next five years, while aiming to increase staff numbers to approximately 750.
Niall Conlon, Director and Co-founder of Aurora, emphasized the strategic significance of the acquisition, stating, “There is huge growth potential in the Australian wind energy sector with both federal and state governments committed to net zero emissions by 2050 and to reduce emissions by 43% below 2005 levels by 2030.”
Aurora's expansion into the Australian market is further propelled by the forecasted growth of the turbine operation and maintenance market, projected to reach US$903.8 million by 2029. With ARC Wind's management team and owner, Andrew Lindsell, continuing to lead the new business, Aurora is well-positioned to capitalize on the burgeoning opportunities in Australia's renewable energy landscape.
Andrew Lindsell, Chief Executive of ARC Wind, expressed confidence in the partnership with Aurora, stating, “This deal provides ARC Wind with the tools we need to reach our full potential.”
The acquisition of ARC Wind marks Aurora's second significant international venture, following its acquisition of Houston-based Cotech Group in October 2023. Looking ahead, Aurora aims to establish a training center in Canberra to provide essential skills and regulatory certifications to support Australia's wind sector, mirroring similar initiatives in the UK and US.
Doug Duguid, Chief Executive Officer of Aurora Energy Services, highlighted the company's commitment to growth and sustainability, stating, “In January, the Scottish National Investment Bank provided a £20 million debt facility, primarily to support domestic growth, but also to assist our international expansion, and we are delighted to once again be active in Australia's dynamic energy sector.”
