TGS, a provider of energy data and intelligence, has commenced a multi-client wind measurement campaign using two LiDAR buoys in the off the coast of .

Equipped with advanced sensors, the buoys enable detailed calculations of wind, metocean, and environmental data, which are crucial for decision-making in support of wind lease rounds in the German Bight.

“The TGS multi-client approach significantly advantages wind developers by reducing development costs and timelines and providing a unique, early opportunity to minimize uncertainty in future energy generation,” said TGS chief executive Kristian Johansen.

Similar programs have been deployed along the East Coast of America and offshore Norway, where data availability has been high, averaging 96% at a measurement height of 160 meters.

Johansen emphasized TGS's commitment to supporting the global growth of offshore wind energy with comprehensive data and insights, highlighting the importance of early access to essential wind and metocean data in mitigating investment risks and facilitating informed decisions.

The buoys, supplied by , will conduct a 24-month measurement campaign, delivering a comprehensive wind data suite along with critical metocean data acquired through Directional Waverider buoys and seabed-mounted Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers.
