Group (SIA) has inked an agreement with , a leading refiner, to procure 1,000 tons of (SAF). This significant stride marks the first-ever supply of such fuel from Neste's refinery in to airlines operating at Changi Airport, as announced by Neste on Monday.

The deal entails -based Neste blending SAF, crafted entirely from renewable waste and residue materials, with conventional fuel. The blended SAF will then be delivered to Changi Airport's fuel hydrant system, with the initial batch scheduled for the second quarter and subsequent deliveries expected in the fourth quarter of 2024.

Neste's Singapore refinery stands as the world's largest production facility for jet fuel derived from waste materials, boasting an annual SAF capacity of up to one million metric tons.

Lee Wen Fen, Chief Sustainability Officer of Singapore Airlines, underscored the significance of the collaboration, stating, “This agreement with Neste is an important milestone in the SIA Group's journey to have a minimum of 5% sustainable aviation fuel in our total fuel uplift by 2030.”

Singapore's proactive stance towards sustainability in aviation was further highlighted earlier in February when the country announced plans to mandate the use of SAF for all outbound flights starting in 2026. This move aligns Singapore with global aviation industry endeavors to transition towards greener fuel alternatives. The nation's roadmap includes targeting a 1% SAF usage from 2026, with ambitions to escalate this figure to 3-5% by 2030.
