Siemens Energy Transformers Arrive for Sunrise Wind Offshore Wind Farm in New York

Four high voltage transformers manufactured by , designated for and 's Sunrise Wind offshore wind farm, have reached , marking a significant milestone in the project's progress.

These transformers, representing Siemens Energy's inaugural HVDC offshore grid connection in the , are en route to Brookhaven, New York, where they will play a crucial role in facilitating the project's power transmission.

In March 2024, Orsted and Eversource jointly confirmed their final investment decision for the Sunrise Wind project, solidifying plans for the ambitious venture. Situated approximately 30 miles (48 km) east of Montauk, New York, Sunrise Wind is poised to become the largest offshore wind farm in the nation upon its completion.

Once operational in 2026, Sunrise Wind is projected to generate renewable energy capable of powering nearly 600,000 households in New York, significantly advancing the state's renewable energy goals.

According to recent developments, Eversource Energy has finalized definitive agreements regarding the sale of its 50% ownership stake in the Sunrise Wind project to Orsted. The transaction is slated to conclude later this year, further streamlining project ownership arrangements.
