Norwegian power producer Statkraft A/S has inked a significant long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) to supply renewable energy to renowned cash-and-carry wholesaler Makro in Spain, as announced by Statkraft's Spanish unit.
Under the terms of the agreement, Statkraft pledges to deliver 59 GWh of renewable power annually, covering a substantial 75% of Makro's total energy consumption. This supply will span across Makro's 37 cash-and-carry centers dispersed throughout Spain, as well as its distribution platform situated in El de Llobregat, Catalonia.
Ensuring transparency and accountability, Makro will be provided with guarantees of origin certificates linked to this procurement, affirmed Statkraft Espana.
Set to come into effect from 2026, the PPA encompasses a ten-year duration, underlining the long-term commitment of both parties towards sustainable energy practices.
This landmark agreement between Statkraft and Makro is a pivotal component of a broader collaboration with METRO, Makro's parent company, aimed at supplying electricity to the group's facilities across various European countries.
With a burgeoning operational portfolio in Spain primarily centered around solar energy, Statkraft remains at the forefront of providing innovative PPA solutions and renewable energy market services to clients across the nation.
