BayWa, a renewable energy company, has been granted planning permission for the 40MW Yanel Farm Solar project in Somerset, England. Developed in collaboration with German counterpart Grüne Energien, the project will feature a photovoltaic array situated on land at Yanel Farm, located north of Sandford.
The Yanel Farm Solar project is anticipated to generate enough energy to power approximately 14,000 homes in the UK annually, aligning with the climate change objectives outlined in the North Somerset Council's Core Strategy. In addition to its renewable energy benefits, the development team aims to enhance biodiversity on the site, implementing measures to create an ecologically rich environment and achieve a biodiversity net gain.
Nick Kay, Head of Solar at BayWa r.e. UK, expressed satisfaction at securing planning consent for the Yanel Solar Farm, stating, “We are delighted about receiving planning consent for Yanel Solar Farm. This achievement shows the success of our solar development team, which is currently working to deliver a 1.5GW pipeline in the UK.”
Kay emphasized the importance of projects like Yanel in advancing net zero targets, noting, “Projects like Yanel are essential to meeting net zero targets, and it is great to see that North Somerset Council is committed to contributing to these goals.”
