Vattenfall to Utilize Ground-Based Lidars for Wind Resource Assessments in Germany

, an energy company, has confirmed plans to employ a fleet of ground-based ZX 300 wind Lidars for wind resource assessments at various new wind development opportunities in . These Lidars are equipped to remotely determine wind characteristics, including wind speed, from ground level up to 300 meters, providing valuable insights for projects.

The deployment of ZX 300 machines is part of Vattenfall's commitment to adhering to strict technical guidelines, such as ‘TR6′ published by the German FGW, which outlines processes for assessing wind potential and energy yield at turbine sites. The ZX 300 is accepted and approved for use within TR6 and is endorsed by leading German consultancies.

To ensure accuracy and reliability, the Lidars will undergo validations against the tallest available met masts at remote sensing test sites in Germany, operated by wind and site contractor Pavana. Additionally, Vattenfall will receive support from ZX Lidars' Trusted Service Provider Ge:Net, which will provide autonomous power supplies and mobility solutions for successful wind measurement.

Jim Hough, senior data manager at Vattenfall, emphasized the benefits of employing Lidars for project development, stating, “Our fleet of Lidars offer real advantages in terms of project development speed and cost. As well as the best-in-class data quality, Vattenfall welcomes the low cost of ownership of the ZX300 and the product's robustness in the field.”

This initiative underscores Vattenfall's commitment to leveraging advanced technologies to streamline wind energy projects while maintaining high standards of data accuracy and cost efficiency.
