Elica Mediterranean Electrical Interconnection, the driving force behind the ambitious interconnector project linking Greece to Egypt, has initiated a pivotal phase by releasing the first two calls for expressions of interest for the final studies of the GREGY initiative.
The initial calls focus on crucial “Desktop Studies,” aiming to refine the selection of the optimal submarine cable route and landing points in both countries. Additionally, they encompass the “Technical analysis of the project and the studies for the calculation of benefit indicators and cost-benefit analysis for the project.”
GREGY, listed in the 1st PCI/PMI roster of the European Union, is poised to revolutionize the electricity landscape by facilitating the interconnection of Egypt and Greece's electricity systems. Central to this endeavor is a 3GW HVDC connection designed for the transmission of 100% green energy from Egypt to Greece and Europe.
The release of these calls signifies a significant advancement in the GREGY project's development trajectory, aimed at expediting its realization as a cornerstone of both national and European energy strategies.
The electricity interconnection between Greece and Egypt heralds a monumental stride in Mediterranean energy infrastructure, positioning Greece as a pivotal player in the energy dynamics of Southeast Europe.
Interested parties are encouraged to submit their Expression of Interest for the initial two tenders by the closing date of 31 May 2024, marking a crucial milestone in the journey towards establishing this transformative electrical link.
