French renewable energy firm Neoen SA celebrated a significant milestone on Friday with the official opening of its impressive 42.7-MWp Romilly-sur-Seine photovoltaic (PV) park, located in the Grand Est region of northeastern France.
The unveiling of the Romilly-sur-Seine complex marks a momentous occasion, as it emerges as the largest solar power generation facility in the department of Aube, Neoen proudly announced in a LinkedIn post.
Constructed on the grounds of a former military airfield, the Romilly-sur-Seine park stands adorned with 78,500 solar panels poised to harness the region's abundant sunlight. Projections indicate that these panels will generate electricity equivalent to the annual consumption needs of approximately 25,000 residents, including heating requirements. The meticulous installation process spanned approximately a year, with Equans' subsidiary Bouygues Energies & Services serving as the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor, ensuring seamless execution of the project.
Neoen's acquisition of the Romilly-sur-Seine project dates back to a competitive tender held by the French Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) in 2011, wherein the company secured the tender for ground-mounted PV capacity. This endeavor was part of a larger portfolio comprising nine projects totaling 130.3 MWp, with Romilly-sur-Seine emerging as the most substantial undertaking in terms of installed capacity.
