Rovco, a provider of technology-driven offshore wind solutions, has secured a framework agreement with Orsted to conduct operations and maintenance (O&M) work at the Block Island and South Fork Wind projects.
Block Island Wind Farm, situated in Rhode Island, stands as the inaugural offshore wind farm in the United States, generating 30MW of renewable energy. Meanwhile, South Fork Wind recently made history as the nation's first commercial-scale wind farm, supplying 132MW of power to Long Island, New York.
Under the agreement, Rovco will employ remote operated vehicles (ROVs) in conjunction with its cutting-edge SubSLAM technology to carry out O&M tasks. This innovative approach will facilitate live stream inspections and real-time 3D reconstructions of site assets, enabling swift decision-making processes onshore.
Rovco's comprehensive data capture methodology will furnish Orsted with detailed insights into both the structures themselves and the surrounding environment, streamlining operations and enhancing efficiency.
Mitch Johnson, Director of Americas at Rovco, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “We're delighted to be working with Orsted, using our industry-leading technology to help them inspect and maintain two key offshore wind farms in the US.” He emphasized the pivotal role of landmark sites like Block Island and South Fork in fostering local supply chains, infrastructure development, and job creation, thereby propelling the growth of the US offshore wind market.
