Avangrid, Inc. has achieved a significant milestone with the reception of its final shipment of solar panels at the True North project site in Falls County, Texas, signaling a crucial advancement in the construction of the True North solar farm and marking a noteworthy achievement in the solar industry.
Pedro Azagra, CEO of Avangrid, expressed enthusiasm about reaching this pivotal construction milestone, stating, “We are thrilled to have reached another major construction milestone at True North, which is set to become Avangrid's largest solar facility and our first in Texas… With this final shipment of solar panels in hand, we are moving full speed ahead with construction and I look forward to seeing True North energised as we accelerate a clean energy transition.”
True North, a 238 MWac (321 MWdc) solar farm currently under construction near Waco, Texas, is poised to contribute clean, renewable energy to support Meta's net zero commitment, including powering its upcoming data center in neighboring Temple with 100 percent renewable energy.
Beyond its renewable energy contributions, the True North project is also fostering economic development and supporting local communities. It is anticipated to contribute more than US$40 million in property taxes over its operational lifespan, directly benefiting public services such as safety, fire protection, and local schools.
Betsy Burnett, Superintendent of Mart Independent School District, underscored the significance of projects like True North in supporting rural communities, stating, “Without projects like True North Solar, small districts like Mart Independent School District don't see the benefits that high property valuations can provide… This project, along with others in the area, allows us to generate funding to replace and renovate our aging buildings and facilities.”
