Fred Olsen Renewables has submitted proposals to the Scottish Government for permission to develop a 100MW hybrid renewable energy project in Scotland, known as the Lees Hill Renewable Energy Park. The project, located in the Scottish Borders, will integrate wind, solar, and battery storage technologies.
The developer has emphasized its commitment to the local community, stating that the project will provide over £7 million in community benefit funding. The plans for the Lees Hill Renewable Energy Park have been refined through a public consultation process that began in 2022. In response to feedback, the number of turbines has been reduced, and adjustments have been made to the solar installation area.
The revised proposals now include six turbines, each reaching up to 200 meters in height, a 60MW solar installation, and battery storage. Emily Galloway, Senior Project Manager at Fred. Olsen Renewables, expressed pride in the project, calling it the company's first hybrid scheme in Scotland. She thanked stakeholders for their contributions during the consultation process, noting that their feedback helped shape the final design.
Galloway also highlighted the project's focus on efficiency and maximizing grid connection. Fred Olsen Renewables looks forward to working closely with all stakeholders throughout the determination process.
