DEME Secures Major Contracts for Offshore Grid Systems in the Netherlands

DEME, a provider of engineering and installation services, has been awarded two significant contracts for the IJmuiden Ver Alpha and Nederwiek 1 offshore grid systems in the Netherlands. These contracts, with a combined value of over €300 million, represent a milestone for DEME, marking its first project involving Prysmian's 525 kV high voltage direct current () cable technology.

The scope of the contracts includes cable installation, landfall and rock placement, dredging, and works. DEME will be responsible for the engineering and installation of two 12 km long 525 kV HVDC cable systems within Lake Veerse Meer, as well as a 126 km long 525 kV HVDC cable system offshore. Additionally, DEME will carry out preparation and supporting works for IJmuiden Ver Alpha, including route preparation, surveys, landfalls, and rock placement, as well as pre-sweeping and rock placement works for the Nederwiek 1 project.

DEME will deploy a variety of vessels from its fleet, including cable installation vessels, hopper dredgers, and a fallpipe . The project will also involve beach works and cofferdam structures at the cable landing locations.

Philip Scheers, Business Unit Director at DEME Offshore, expressed pride in being involved in such a landmark project: “We are proud to be working with Prysmian on this landmark project in the Netherlands, which will ultimately deliver 4GW of clean energy. This multidisciplinary project showcases the benefits of working with DEME.”

The IJmuiden Ver Alpha and Nederwiek 1 projects are offshore grid connection systems operated by , connecting future offshore wind farms in the Dutch to the province of Zeeland. The first connection is expected to be operational in 2029, with the second following in 2030.
