SK Eco Plant, a subsidiary of South Korea's SK Group, has partnered with Vietnam-based Bamboo Capital Group Energy (BCGE) to develop a 700-megawatt (MW) portfolio of onshore wind, rooftop, and ground-mounted solar projects in Vietnam.
The collaboration, outlined in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the two parties, also includes exploration of other high-potential renewable energy projects, SK Eco Plant announced on Friday.
As part of the agreement, SK and BCGE plan to add 300 MW of onshore wind capacity, with some projects located in the Gia Lai highland area in central Vietnam, known for its abundant wind resources. Additionally, 300 MW will be dedicated to rooftop photovoltaic (PV) projects, while 100 MW will be allocated for ground-mounted PV installations.
The partnership aims to secure carbon emissions rights under the United Nations' Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). These credits can be utilized to offset greenhouse gas emissions or traded with other companies, providing a significant contribution to Vietnam's renewable energy goals.
“The partnership between SK Eco Plant and Bamboo Capital Group Energy marks a significant step towards advancing renewable energy development in Vietnam, leveraging the country's natural resources and contributing to global sustainability efforts,” said a spokesperson for SK Eco Plant.
