, a leading energy company, has been granted planning permission to commence construction on the Greener Grid Park adjacent to the Coylton substation in the United Kingdom. This pioneering project, featuring 50MW batteries, aims to bolster the stability of the grid while facilitating the transmission of increased renewable power.

The Greener Grid Park utilizes cutting-edge technology equipped with grid-forming converters, designed to consistently maintain grid stability by resisting fluctuations in voltage and frequency. Additionally, the batteries will serve the crucial function of storing, importing, and exporting energy, thus advancing the decarbonization efforts of the 's electricity supply.

The project's journey began with a minor planning application submitted by Statkraft in 2021, which received consent from the East Ayrshire Council in August 2022 without encountering objections. Subsequently, Statkraft adjusted its plans to align with the requirements of National Grid ESO, leading to the submission of a major planning application.

Sarah Tullie, Statkraft's Project Manager for Coylton Greener Grid Park, expressed gratitude towards the East Ayrshire Council for their support, highlighting the significance of Greener Grid Parks in facilitating the UK's transition to sustainable energy. Tullie emphasized the pivotal role such projects play in reducing reliance on fossil fuels, ultimately leading to lower consumer bills due to the cost-effectiveness of renewable energy sources.
