Acciona Energia has initiated the construction of a substantial 412-megawatt (MW) photovoltaic project in the state of Rajasthan, India, underscoring the country's burgeoning renewable energy sector.
Scheduled for commissioning in 2025, the solar plant represents a significant addition to Acciona Energia's portfolio in India, where the company already operates four wind farms.
Comprising approximately 750,000 photovoltaic modules, this project marks Acciona Energia's largest endeavor in the Indian renewable energy market.
In alignment with its commitment to sustainable development, Acciona Energia intends to integrate the project into its Social Impact Management program. This initiative is tailored to foster education, enhance well-being, and promote environmental conservation within the communities where the company operates.
India's remarkable progress in solar energy deployment is highlighted by a staggering 30-fold increase in installed solar power capacity over the past nine years. Rajasthan, in particular, stands out as a leader in large-scale solar installations, boasting over 18 gigawatts (GW) of connected solar power capacity by the close of 2023.
The region's contribution to India's cumulative solar capacity amounts to approximately 25%, reflecting Rajasthan's pivotal role in driving the nation's renewable energy agenda.
