Swire Renewable Energy has bolstered its foothold in Africa with the acquisition of Obelisk Energy Services, a reputable renewable energy services firm headquartered in Cape Town, South Africa.

The acquisition, which encompasses affiliated group companies in South Africa and Ireland, marks a significant step for Swire Renewable Energy in solidifying its position in the region. This move comes closely on the heels of Swire’s recent purchase of Altitec Blade Services, which also operates in South Africa, and sets the stage for the company to establish a servicing presence in Ireland.

Obelisk Energy Services has built a strong reputation for providing top-notch maintenance, testing, and support services within the renewable energy sector. Since its inception in 2010, the company has lent its expertise to over 200 renewable energy development sites and more than 20 wind farms across South Africa. Its comprehensive portfolio includes wind measurement services, HS&E advisory services, statutory inspections, operational maintenance services, as well as blade and tower services.

Ryan Smith, Chief Executive Officer of Swire Renewable Energy, highlighted the strategic significance of the acquisition, stating, “Acquiring the renewable services business of Obelisk represents an important strategic move for Swire Renewable Energy and consolidates our African position following last week’s acquisition of Altitec Blade Services, which provides blade services in South Africa.”

With this acquisition, Swire Renewable Energy is poised to further enhance its capabilities in servicing renewable energy infrastructure while expanding its reach across key markets in Africa and beyond.
