Philippines conglomerate JG Summit Holdings has announced the successful completion of a major renewable energy project, as its renewables arm finalizes work on one of the largest rooftop solar installations in the country.
The 13.8-MWp solar array, located at the petrochemical complex in Batangas city, is set to cover a substantial portion of the energy needs for JG Summit's complex. This facility houses the manufacturing plants of JG Summit Olefins Corporation (JGSOC) and the flexible packaging division of Universal Robina Corporation (URC).
Constructed across nine buildings, the solar installation is anticipated to eliminate approximately 17 kilotonnes of greenhouse gas emissions annually. The project was executed by JG Summit's Merbau Corporation in collaboration with Upgrade Energy Philippines (UGEP). Initiated in August 2022, the construction unfolded in two phases, with capacities of 5.8 MW and 8.0 MW, respectively.
The completion of this solar installation marks a significant step towards sustainable energy practices for JG Summit Holdings, contributing to both environmental goals and the energy requirements of its industrial complex.
